PORTLAND, Ore. – Backups are back.
The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 will be closed until Monday morning at 5 a.m. between I-5 and I-205, the second of three planned closures for a repaving project.
The Oregon Department of Transportation recommended Lombard Street, Columbia Boulevard, Sandy Boulevard, Burnside Street and Powell Boulevard as possible alternatives, though those surface streets are likely to suffer backups.
Complicating matters somewhat is an American Idol concert on Saturday night at the Rose Garden. ODOT said to plan for congestion on I-5 or take mass transit.
The final I-84 weekend closure will begin Aug. 3 at 11 p.m. and end Aug. 5 at 5 a.m. The contractor is allowed four more weeknight closures if necessary to complete the work.
