Armored truck hits oncoming SUV

REDMOND, Ore. - An armored truck hit an oncoming vehicle Monday morning, sending three people to the hospital.

According to state police, 35-year-old Dane Smith of Redmond lost control of the armored truck he was driving as he approached a car stopped on Highway 126 west of Redmond as the driver waited to make a lefthand turn around 9:15 a.m.

The armored truck veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a small SUV driven by Jose Armando Aguirre Bernabe, 18, of Bend.

Firefighters pulled Aguirre Bernabe from the wreckage. He was taken by air ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The two people in the Garda armored transportation truck were taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries, state police said.

The crash closed the highway for about an hour.
