Inmate escapes from Marion Co. Jail work center
SALEM, Ore. – An inmate escaped from the Marion County Jail Work Center Friday evening, deputies said.
Deputies heard an emergency exit alarm sound while they were supervising the dinner meal at 5:00 p.m. After a head count, they learned that 19-year-old Arnold Christian Perez had left the facility.
Perez scaled a fence to escape, deputies said.
The work center is a work-release minimum security facility where low-risk inmates serve their sentences. Some inmates are on work crews, while others are granted passes to get jobs as they transition back to society.
Perez was serving time for violating his parole for an assault conviction, deputies said.
He is described as a Hispanic male, 5’5’’, 120 lbs., who has brown hair and brown eyes. His hair is shaved and he has multiple tattoos, including one that says “L.A.” on his right shoulder. He was wearing normal street clothes when he was last seen.
Deputies say Perez is from the Salem area and has gang affiliations. Anyone who sees him or knows his location is asked to call the Marion County Sheriff’s Office or 911.
