Intruder shot, killed in Warrenton estranged husband, police say

WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — Police say a man shot and killed while intruding in an apartment in Warrenton was the estranged husband of the woman who lived there.

Thirty-nine-year-old Bruce Ross Rogers of Astoria was shot Tuesday while breaking into a bedroom where four people had gathered to protect themselves from him.

Rogers was the only person injured during the incident.

Warrenton Police Chief Mathew Workman says the Clatsop County Major Crime Team continues to investigate, and detectives are trying to find Rogers' vehicle, a black 1988 Toyota pickup with Oregon license plate SL35403.

The shooting happened in an apartment above a beauty salon in the coastal town of 5,000 people. The residents — a 46-year-old woman and three teens — called police to say a man they knew had broken into the house and claimed to have a gun.

The chief said the residents had two weapons in the bedroom.
