Kitzhaber orders flags at half-staff in memory of soldier

SALEM, Ore. -- Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Nov. 19 in honor of Captain James Nehl.
“CPT Nehl was a dedicated leader serving his country,” Kitzhaber said in a press release. “His commitment to his nation is inspiring, yet his death is a tragic loss and a reminder of the burden our military and their families continue to bear. He will be missed, and I ask that all Oregonians pause this Monday to honor his sacrifice.”
Nehl, 37, of Gardiner, Ore., died Nov. 9 while conducting combat operations in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas.
The Governor shouldn't have to ORDER the flags be flown at half-staff! It should be a voluntary act to honor a fallen hero!
What a terrible waste of life. All members of congress who voted illegally to delegate their power to declare war to the president should be held criminally liable.
Why doesn't he put them at half-staff for all the soldiers that have died?
The governor's of Oregon have been asking the flags to be flown at half staff for the Oregon soldiers and military personnel who have died. This is the call of the Governor of each state

RIP Cpt Nehl!
@Jamie  I knew if I clicked on this story about honoring a fallen soldier there would be a Republican using it as a reason to say something negative about Kitzhaber ..... and here you are!!
@badcat  @Jamie Yup - talk about missing the point.
