PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court's decision to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a spokesman who resigned during a sex scandal involving former Portland Mayor Sam Adams.

Wade Nkrumah quit as Adams' spokesman in January 2009, less than a month into the Adams's first term. He did so after the mayor acknowledged shortly after taking office that he lied during the election campaign when he denied having a sexual relationship with teenager Beau Breedlove.

Nkrumah said he quit because of the lie. He then sued his former boss and the city, claiming Adams damaged his reputation by telling a television reporter that the spokesman quit because of heightened stress resulting from the scandal.

Adams did not seek re-election in 2012.
