Log truck driver dies in crash down embankment

GRAND RONDE, Ore. (AP) - The Polk County sheriff's office says the driver of a loaded log truck died Tuesday morning when the truck ran off a logging road. The accident happened south of Grand Ronde, 60 miles southwest of Portland. The fully loaded log truck plunged down an embankment in heavy fog.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the fog was likely the cause of the crash. The truck driver was 39-year-old Gary Kline of Independence.

Lt. Jeff Isham said the Kline was ejected and he was not wearing a seatbelt. The wreckage wasn't found for about four hours because of the heavy fog.

The truck that Kline was driving is owned by Siletz Trucking in Independence.
