'There's a situation - you've got a beaver walking down 14th Street'

OREGON CITY, Ore. - A beaver that seemed to have lost its way got a police escort late Thursday night.
Around 11:30 p.m., someone called 9-1-1 and said a beaver was walking across Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard at 14th Street, away from the Willamette River.
Caller: There's a situation - you've got a beaver walking down 14th Street away from McLoughlin. It's a rather good-sized one and he's heading towards any headlights he sees.
911 Operator: Ok, does he seem to be aggressive or rabid or anything?
Caller: No. He seems to be fine. He's just waddling along.
When officers showed up, they tried to use a pole with a noose to catch the beaver, but they quickly figured out that the animal was pretty mellow and had no problem walking with them.
The beaver and officers took a leisurely 40-minute stroll to Abernethy Creek before parting ways.

Poor lil guy...probably just wanted to stretch his ol' legs and they make a circus out of it.
Glad he made it back to the creek OK.
I like beaver.
you just gotta leave it to Beaver to have some fun
Yeah nothing like escorting beaver to safety!
Looking a little scruffy. I prefer a shaved beaver.
God Bless the police officers for helping the beaver, I love it

It's Portland. If it had run the cops would have shot it.
Did the cuty violate a traffic law? He was jaywalking, why didn't he receive a ticket?
@tptpttp  He just had a flat...tail.
What a great story....people need to see more of our police officers helping "others" like this (-;
Nice Beaver...
@Nuclear-XÂ "Thanks, I had it stuffed last week"
God, that was a classic. RIP Leslie Nielsen
This would not have happened if the city had put the cross walk signals lower so the beaver could have reached it!Â
Even the [real] beavers are helping keep Portland weird.
I wonder if those officer's are duck fans? This was a great story. Not every day a Beaver gets a Police escort. Thanks Katu for a great story.
They were escorting the chap back to ensure he had his tree removal permits in place. A tree replacement plan and wetland permits.
It ran away from OSU after they changed his image on the logo.
@John Kruskamp They messin' with yours too? They just totally screwed up our Sparky.  ;(
Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care
When you put your arms around me
I get a beaver that's so hard to bare
You give me beaver When you kiss me, Beaver when you hold me tight
BEAVER
In the mornin', beaver all through the night
Sun lights up the day time
Moon lights up the night
I light up when you call my name
and you know I'm gonna treat you right
You give me Beaver...
@Playanekes A really great version of that song is on the Ray Charles album "Genius loves company". The duet is with Natalie Cole....
Time to turn on some tunes! Thanks for the suggestion.Â
@MarkKpic @Playanekes That album also has Ray Charles and Diana Krall "you Don't Know Me". And they are on YouTube. That's one of the best albums ever!
@MarkKpic @Playanekes  Thanks back! Watching an old Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan concert on PBS in about five minutes. Â
@Playanekes @MarkKpic PBS - panhandling in your home
@Playanekes enjoy!
@Playanekes Gotta hand it to you -- enjoyed this comment the most of any I've read today.  Thanks for the smile -- I was in need of one.
@Playanekes ....(snaps fingers)
I am glad they saved it. I once shut down traffic on Murray to escort a family of ducks to the other side. No one was angry and other motorists joined in to help
@Joesph Ringer GOOD FOR YOU!  Hats off.Â
I've done the same for deer, quail and many other animals out here in Yacolt. We've had groups of quail running down the road, downtown Yacolt, not exactly a metropolis but still.. LOL
Nobody ever gets upset and often times, they either help out or give a friendly wave.Â
Tina called the Desk and asked us to put up the question of whether the beaver might have been ill and if so should not the beaver have been taken to the Audobon clinic or something.
a duck would never need to ask directions!
If it was more wintery I would be thinking hat
@BertÂ
Beavers were replaced by nutria for that, when they lost favor the breeders turned them loose.
I see nutria more often than beavers ( kinda similar, but no flat tail)
@oldcouvguy @Bert First time I saw a nutria it scared me. The only mammal with teats on its back
@Bert @oldcouvguyÂ
Are you sure it wasn't a beaver upside down?
@cwpholderÂ
There is a "herd?' of them living in the swamp N. of I-500 W. of Van Mall.
They will go through the culvert along Andreson and munch on the grass under the Vancouver Isuzu sign.
I saw one there, parked at the lot to see, the salesman said they sleep under the cars at night, they chase them out in the mornings.
@Bert @cwpholder @oldcouvguyÂ
Thank you.. So even though they're not native, do we have some living wild around here?
I want to know what I saw lol, it's bugged me ever since.. I guess I'll google Nutria and see what it looks like..
Thanks! :)
@cwpholder @Bert @oldcouvguy I do not think so they were bred for furs and when chinchillas became the pelt of choice the breeders just let them go go. Life was more rural then.
@Bert @oldcouvguyÂ
HEY! Are those native to this area??Â
I saw a slow, little sausage shaped, brown animal out in Yacolt.. Waited for it to cross the road actually.. It looked young but perhaps just not very coordinated- I hadn't ever seen one before and I tried to look it up online but never found it.Â
It looked like a cross between a beaver & a guinea pig.Â
You Oregonians do know the cops were escorting the state animal home, right?
All I saw were references to some ball team and "singers." Â
@oldcouvguy  there are some references to something else..........
So that's what happened to the tree in Mill Ends Park.
He was probably trying to commit suicide after seeing the new OSU mascot.
@B Smizzle Holly crap that's funny.
We came across on walking down the street in Salem after winning a game last Fall.
He must have been confused by the new football uni's
It'll be a new phenomon...walk your beaver day.
Great job
This is AWESOME!!! :D Another reason why I'll never hunt ANY animal...
So, do you hunt...people? Some people are worse than animals.
