America is designed for earthquakes, we have building codes which protect us better than any emergency plan, the reason 100's of thousands of people (tragically) die in places like Haiti or Mexico is 'cause they get buried in buildings that aren't built for safety. Â We're fine, just gotta watch out for those few unreinforced brick masonry buildings.
Just think, when Cascadia lets go, it'll be the equivalent of a drive from Portland to Roseburg at most in regards to distance, and the ground is supposed to settle around three feet lower. Shaking will rival that of Japan's earthquake (megathrust type) and our coconuts will be pretty much in a sling for two weeks, at the very least. Lots of non-perishable food, water, and ammo, kids. Not conspiracy, just cold hard facts. ;)
 @Riddler Yep and we are historically overdue so it can happen at any time now...
 @FreedomRocks  @Riddler WAY Over due.
and if any man or woman here don't know the power, Just mosey on over to them little twisted and bent rock formations along our coast lines. then ask your self, what kind of power twists rock? NOTHING will left standing when that hits, UNLESS the buildings are flexible materials. Oh wait, Cars parked will be ok, unless there near a tree, hill, building, driving and a pit open up and swallows it, or flung off the road, or sucked down in softer soils called liquefaction. And then there are other things as well. trains derailing, planes unable to land due to warped run ways, Tsunami is a given.
Did I leave anything out?
Â
Got yer earthquake insurance paid for? A big one is coming, not if, but when.
 @whirledworld Yep being most peoples homes are such a large part of their net worth its tough to not have it. Although we all now those like myself who pay for it will be pissed off when the feds bail out the idiots who did not with our tax dollars...
No tsunami, no cigar!
I thought that was just the chili I had for dinner.
WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!
Â
Â
Eventually...
This area right of the coast seems to have many such earthquakes around that magnitude.
Lets hope they are always this typeÂ
 @Older than dirt Nope we are over due for an 8-9 which happens every 350-500 years and we are over the 350 point right now.
Good - let off some steam far from land.
