WOODBURN, Ore. -- A suspect accused of attacking a 79-year-old disabled man for his truck has been identified and arrested.
Clackamas County sheriff's investigators arrested Billy Lee Rodriguez, 43, of Woodburn Friday after he was stopped by a deputy. He was booked in the Clackamas County Jail on suspicion of second-degree robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Detectives found out where Rodriguez allegedly ditched the stolen truck and were in the process of recovering it Friday.
Deputies said Rodriguez had approached 79-year-old James "Jim" Madsen at his home in rural Clackamas County east of Woodburn Tuesday afternoon and asked for some gas, claiming his car had broken down.
Madsen offered to drive Rodriguez, a stranger, into town, so he could get gas. After retrieving his wallet and car keys and heading toward his truck, Madsen said the man allegedly grabbed him from behind and wrestled him to the ground.
The man then fled, stealing Madsen's wallet and taking off in his truck, which also had Madsen's motorized scooter inside.
Detectives said they haven't recovered the scooter.
