Man accused of stealing 4 cars in 4 days

PORTLAND, Ore. – Washington County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who they said stole four cars from around the county in four days last week.
Travis Kitchen, 21, of Hillsboro is accused of stealing the vehicles from Hillsboro, Tigard and unincorporated Washington County. Kitchen allegedly stole the vehicles while they were warming up with the keys in the ignition in front of the owners’ homes.
Deputies arrested Kitchen on Saturday when they spotted him driving a stolen Ford Fusion, according to Sgt. Bob Ray.
All four stolen vehicles were found and returned to their owners.
Kitchen was taken to the Washington County Jail on $25,000 bail. He faces four counts each of unauthorized use of a vehicle, first degree theft and unlawful entry into a vehicle.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is reminding car owners to not leave the keys or other valuables in their unattended vehicles.
Knowing the guy personally and reading the comments on this page made me laugh so hard. Look, Travis is a nice guy and has a good heart, he is just a lost soul. He deserves no pity or remorse for his actions, but the guy has been struggling to make it in this world on his own. Â He is adopted, his birth mother is a crack addict, he has turrets, cancer, the army kicked him out cause his lungs gave him complications while being gassed, he was unable to get a job as a truck driver even AFTER completing school, most of his friends bailed, his adopted family just broke up because the father is a disgusting cheater, I mean these are just a few of his problems. My family knows him very well and loves him dearly. They have done everything they can to be a positive influence on him. We are all deeply saddened to see him take this path when we know the guy has much potential.

The other point  I would like to mention, and fail to see in the article is that travis escaped from an RC on a trip to the DMV, why was there not people watching these guys? I mean isn't that why we pay into these programs so they can ACTUALLY keep an eye on people transitioning to/from jail. The media has failed to address this issue. Time to do some watchdog reporting guys!!
Stupid as stupid does on both parts. I never leave the car running with out being in it...Just to many things aside from thievery that can so wrong. The car could have a mechanical failure and go into gear ..anything can go wrong .
Only 4 in 4 days? And drivers leaving keys in cars to warm the cars up? Seriously? That is pretty darn stupid. Bet they won't do THAT again!
He's just a Monkey looking for his Trunk.
This is why we all need remote start...
This is interesting, but can any one find the story of the Detroit school teacher that shot and killed one attacker, and wounded the other on this website? I would think that story would be big news considering the recent developments.
@last boyscout   Yes, one would THINK that it would be a big story. You must remember, however, that that would be a GOOD story about guns - nothing that K2 (or most of the liberal biased media) would dare to report on.
@wondering  @last I agree. KATU is only wanting to post negative stories on guns. That is a good story too.

BUT they left their cars there for him to use. if they didn't want someone to use their car they would have a spare key to lock their doors while their car warms up like i do.
Fixed it for ya -Â

"Travis Kitchen is reminding car owners to not leave the keys or other valuables in their unattended vehicles."
Way to rack up the frequent flyer miles in court.
Does this mean he gets 4 tickets?
Just trying to emulate the Portland car-sharing program!
Come on, he was just trying to find one he really liked. Of course the idiots that left their keys inside an idling car didn't help matters, they just made it easier! Â
@jpk Test driving every one, right? ;-)
Hmm, baby gorilla stealing cars? I would like to see that...
Watch out! Bubba may want to come in the back door of Kitchens kitchen.
He will be back on the streets stealing cars soon. Seems like it would be cheaper just to give this crook a cheap car.Â
@scared_citizen your are totally right as his bunk in the jail was just given away for a year for some guy caught tagging. See other story.
