Man arrested after hit-and-run crash in Tigard
TIGARD, Ore. – Police arrested a man who they said fled the scene of a crash early Saturday morning in Tigard.
It happened at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Southwest Beef Bend Road at around 1 a.m., according to Tigard police spokesman Jim Wolf.
A Toyota 4Runner crashed into a Honda Civic as it tried to make a left turn onto Beef Bend Road. Two people in the Honda were taken to OHSU in Portland. Their injuries were not life-threatening, Wolf said.
The driver of the Toyota, Corey Michael Kaufman, ran away from the crash scene. Police used his vehicle registration to find his apartment, where they arrested him.
Kaufman was taken to the Washington County Jail on charges of DUII, hit and run and Assault 4 (2 counts).
Police said Kaufman’s passenger, Danna Zimmerly, stayed at the scene.

gotcha!
Hit and run is a cowardly act. There seems to be a lot more of these H&Rs lately. Maybe it is time to change the law.  Make Hit and Run a minimum 1 year in jail offense and loss of vehicle involved. Loss of license doesn't stop anybody but it is hard to drive when you are in jail. Of course we should also make the penalties much more severe for DUII.
@I812 I think the consequences are why he probably ran, because this is his second offense since may of 2012 and the gavel will much more heavily now, as he probably was not even completed with his diversion on the first dui which will now be automatically on his record which will go from a misdemaeanor to a crime as well.
The driver of the Honda is a good friend of mine. She is safe and I am so happy to hear. I hate drunk drivers!
Just a little tip, Corey. When the government hands you anything with a unique number on it, like say, a license plate, they often keep a record of who has which number.

Hope that helps you out in the future.

You're welcome.
Time to ban cars!
@scoreboard Time to ban trite and insipid comments. Like yours, for example. Try to get an original thought, if you can.
In 2010 in Hillsboro I was hit by a pick up truck who totaled my car in a hit and run accident. There were several witnesses. These witnesses followed the hit and run driver to his home. Hillsboro Police responded. The driver/owner of the truck was so drunk he could not stand up. He did not have a drivers license or car insurance. The HPD officer did not arrest him or issue a citation. He was seen driving this same vehicle the next day. This is the same vehicle and driver that killed a female pedestrian a month later in another hit and run accident in Washington. Date of my accident is 1/28/2010 it's matter of public record. Dig it up and read it. You don't need my permission. I sustained 28,000 in medical bills and my car was 14,000 in damages (totaled). A woman is dead as a result of their lack of action on a serious crime. I did everything I could do at the time to get that driver off the road and will I continue to post this story. If the guy in this story lived in Hillsboro he would have been safe at home. The Hillsboro Police Dept "protects and serves" hit and run drivers.
He runs from the scene.... right to his own home, what an idiot

Seriously, did he get to his appartment and think .....Whew, I'm safe, they'll never find me here
Ran away from the crash scene? Did you think the cops wouldn't be able to find you? Dumb a**...
Just stay home and get stoned next time.
Why are we blaming the person here?? It was obviously caused by the car!
It's a sad time when a passenger stays and the driver flees. Danna Zimmerly I suggest you don't condone or even try to mitigate the actions of the driver and if he's your friend, I suggest you start looking for one more responsible!!
What a loser.
Man almighty what is going on with people?
@lee986321 That's what the heck I've been wondering about!  People are really, really lost nowadays with all the "freedoms" that they are "enjoying".
