Deputies: Angry man put tiny dog into oven heated to 350 degrees
LYONS, Ore. -- A Lyons man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated animal abuse for allegedly placing a Chihuahua-Pincher dog in a heated oven.
Kevin Dean Parrish, 20, was booked Monday in the Marion County Jail in lieu of $10,000.
Marion County deputies said Parrish was watching the 9-pound dog, Kudo, for his grandmother, who was out of state.
Parrish told deputies he became enraged on Friday after Kudo nipped him, so he grabbed the dog and allegedly started punching him in the head. Deputies said Parrish also admitted to trying to strangle Kudo, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Since he had already pre-heated the oven to 350 degrees to cook some enchiladas, Parrish told investigators he then decided to allegedly put the dog in the oven, deputies said.
"Parrish said he was prepared to leave him there, but he suddenly heard his brother coming into the house," the news release said.
Parrish' brother and father rescued 6-year-old Kudo, taking the dog to a veterinarian. Kudo suffered cuts and bruises, his hair was singed and three of his legs were badly burned, deputies said.
The suspects father notified deputies about the case, and they launched an investigation.
Parrish, who has no criminal record, admitted to deputies that he has anger issues and snapped when dealing with the dog.
Parrish's father is taking care of Kudo and the dog will continue receiving care at the vet clinic.
Last week, three women were arrested after nearly 150 dogs were found neglected at a shelter. Many were emaciated or in ill health. All of those animals are being cared for by the Oregon Humane Society.
In Salem, Democratic Rep. Brad Witt has introduced a bill that would require animal abusers to register with Oregon State Police in the same way sex offenders are now required to register their location.
"Often times, what we see is people who abuse humans got started abusing animals," Witt said. "Certainly it's intolerable to be inflicting that kind of abuse pain and suffering on animals."
Put him in an oven - like a crematorium. Problem solved.
This is so sad. If this boy can do this to a poor doggie what will he do to a human. get him some help. putting him in jail will not help him in the long run. the bible clearly says an Eye for an Eye. maybe if we do him exactly what he did to this poor doggie, it will stop others from hurting an dong such wicked things to others. this poor doggie breathes GODS Holy breathe just like we do. I pray the doggie will be healed fully. Shame on you boy, an yes I wont call you a man because a real man would not do this. he needs some sercious help now. he needs to be put in a mental hospital to get help an see why he would hurt a poor doggie like this. their is no excuse for what he did. May GOD have mercy upon you. Poor Grand mother. I cant imagine how she feels. a big hug to the brother that snatched up his brother. you should of gave him a good old fashion butt whooping. Please GOD heal that poor puppy an the family. this boy needs to turn to JESUS for sersious heart help.
Wait til granny get's a hold of him...
This just makes me sick:( !!!! There is something wrong with this young man and he needs professional help! Many times we see that those who abuse animals end up being serial killers. Abusing a poor defenseless little dog should be a felony! He's old enough to know better.
I dont think a list need to be created because it wont accomplish anything.
Â
Stiffer penalties need to occur for animal abusers. This should be a felony and he should serve some time for this.
@mike
A list would accomplish something...then shelters and breeders would know not to send a pet home with those kind!!
OMG! Poor Kudo. I'm glad he is still alive. Maybe we should pre-heat the oven and do the same to this dousch bag.
Another heartless, mentally-ill young man full of bitterness, anger, and hate. We are a sick society that is getting worse and producing more heartless men and women all of the time.Â
Really sick puppy to do this. If I were the the police I would check to see if there are any missing persons in his neighborhood. Some might think this is an honest mistake confusing chihuahua mix with enchiladas, but I think he needs some serious help from a shrink.
too rare for me
@iamright555Â I wonder if he set the timer.
He has "anger issues"? Wow, that's a new one, never heard that before. Sounds more like a spoiled brat who needed more discipline as a child. I'm surprised his bond wasn't higher, this was brutally cruel. The poor pup owes his life to the father and brother.Â
@Kachina People do have anger issues but its not always due to lack of discipline. There are many things that could trigger it. I'm not saying that's an excuse for this loser, just that anger issues can be legitimate. I hope he goes to jail but if he truly has these issues I hope he gets help so he can hopefully not do this again.

@Mike Smith huh? Congrats on another completely irrelevant comment.
Â
Â
Seems this POS is the only wingnut of the family. Brother and father did the right thing.
Â
Convict on a felony, firearm prohibition, no animal ownership and yes castrate him so that he cannot later abuse his own children. Oh a tattoo on his forehead with crime info would be nice also.
don't have kids
We should ban ovens! Was this an Assault Oven?
@scared_citizen groan... tired man, get a new one.
@randola Sorry. I thought my calling it an Assault Oven was pretty clever.
@scared_citizen  @randola Actually it is kinda funny if I don't read anything into it.
 @scared_citizen Nope, just stupid.
@scared_citizen blah blah blah....and we should ban stupid people too, especially if it means you'll be banned.

@Mike Smith And this is relevant how?
@Mike Smith "wut About the bill of writes"
How about you learn how to put an intelligent sentence together before bad mouthing someone else?
What a sick SOB....
Looks like this cocky little nipper/yapper has been knocked down a peg or two and humbled into submission. After that tramatic experience, this mut will now have homosapeinophobia. Will always coward with a tucked tail in the presence of humans and shake and quiver and look scared to death. Mut has been warped permanently and now lives with insecurity issues. Amazing what on hearless act can do.

@Mike Smith Yet, you remain stupid.
@Mike Smith And yet, someone goes off-topic.

 @catherine.henry I was guessing 2nd grade
Mike Smith; My, don't you have a high opinion of yourself! I'd say around the maturity level of a sixth grader.
I have found that how people treat animals is a good indicator of how they treat other people.  This person needs help or another person will someday feel his wrath.Â
@NorthernBlackBear Most psychopaths start out by torturing little animals during their childhood & adolescent years.
What a twisted and demented person! I hope they lock him up for a long time. Thank god for his dad!Â
I wouldn't mess with him. Any guy who can beat up a chihuahua, is one tough mofo!Â
The next victim will be a person. Â he should get the same treatment as what he did to the poor little dog.
Bet he can still buy a gun./Â
@rwboberg Maybe depends on if it is a felony or not. The fact he is mentally ill is private info and can not be currently released as part of a background check. Although I think one of those 23 EO's Obama just did addresses that.
Anyone who could do that to a tiny, defenseless animal is a sick, demented person with far deeper problems.  This is the kind of person we should all be afraid of.  This is the kind of person that should have to register and be supervised.  The warning signs are there.....
This is one sick, twisted, freak!!!! Â
"Sic balls kudo"
Thank God he wasn't baby-sitting a child!
Good thing no one left this guy with a child. I hope no one ever does.Â
... I guess he didn't have a gun.
An eye for an eye.
A real piece of work. Has anger issues huh? Coward. Needs locked up awhile and have a few bullies show him how it feels. Karma don't let me down.
 From KGW 8:
LYONS, Ore ... It is difficult to make out Kevin Parrish's size by looking at his booking photo. According to authorities, Parrish is 5'11 and nearly 200lbs. That alone makes what happened to a little Chihuahua even more shocking...."
Â
Â
@whirledworld Compared to me, Kevin Parrish is small. I'd like a few minutes in a room with him . . . unobserved.

Lol, I hope his grandmother is rich. Now he can live the rest of his life thinking about that inheritance he won't be getting.
We need laws that protect animals. Animals need to be treated as a life not as a piece of property. We need laws that prevent people from breeding animals without having a breeders license, and prevent people from owning animals who cannot pass some sort of background check like I'm sure they do when people adopt children. It needs to be harder to get an animals. It is a privledge to have an animal who gives unconditional in your life, it is sad to see how horrible people can be to these innocent pets. It makes me sick. I think people who hurt animals in these cruel ways deserve to be hurt the same exact way in return. If they knew the punishment for them would be an eye for an eye, they might think twice about doing the cime. Pray for these animals that they will recover fully and never feel pain and suffering like they have endured in their lives ever again. Â
Between this story and the one of the dog that was beat in the head for eating a box of doughnuts, I was moved to tears. It is amazing what people are capable of, and how easily they can allow themselves to lose control.Â
@JV In both cases, what you are dealing with is a genuinely sick person that has deeper issues.  These are the kinds of people we should all be afraid of.  Most folks wouldn't find it "easy" to hurt small animals, no matter how angry they got.  Most people aren't capable of this level of demented cruelty.....
@'CouvGuy @JVÂ You know, you are right. Big difference between getting mad because your dog ate your donuts and telling him he is a bad boy, get out in your yard for a while and think about it; and trying to kill him. I have never hit my dog in anger (he does like to play rough; I have scars to prove it) but he always knows when he did wrong. If I put him out in his yard for a while after telling him he screwed up, he comes back in with a sheepish "do you still love me" look on his face. There is no reason to abuse an animal, period!
