Man arrested in connection to hit-and-run crash in NE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police arrested a man in connection to a hit-and-run crash that injured two people.

The crash occurred on May 18 just after midnight on Interstate 84 eastbound near Northeast 53rd Avenue. Police said a vehicle driven by Hanh Huu Nguyen, 23, rear-ended another vehicle with two people inside. Police said the driver and passenger inside the car that was hit were both injured.

Nguyen left the scene of the crash, according to police. Officers located his vehicle at Northeast Halsey Street and 102nd Avenue. Police said Nguyen abandoned his car and fled the scene before police arrived.

Officers were able to identify the driver and arrested Nguyen Thursday morning.

Nguyen was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of hit-and-run, assault, initiating a false police report, and reckless driving. He will be arraigned on Friday in Multnomah County Court.
