Man dead after standoff with Clackamas County SWAT team in Molalla

MOLALLA, Ore. – An armed suspect is dead after a standoff with a Clackamas County SWAT team outside Molalla early Monday morning, deputies said.

Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies are working to determine whether Shane Griffin, 36, killed himself or was shot by police.

The incident began with a domestic-violence 911 call at about 10 p.m. Sunday. The caller said there had ben a violent incident, and that Griffin had threatened to use several guns.

Griffin’s wife was hurt badly enough for felony domestic violence charges, deputies said, but she escaped with two children.

When deputies arrived at 30250 Hwy. 213, they learned Griffin was armed and refusing to cooperate. Deputies spent several hours talking to the man by phone and text in an attempt to get him to come out.

When a SWAT team arrived just before 2 a.m., shots were fired almost immediately. A sergeant at the scene said at least one member of the SWAT team opened fire.
