Police: Man at center of standoff was shooting a BB gun

GRESHAM, Ore. - A man who police say fired a BB gun at a woman and then holed up inside an apartment ended up in jail.
The incident happened just before midnight Sunday at an apartment complex in the 17300 block of Northeast Halsey Street.
According to the Gresham Police Department, officers were called there on reports that a man was firing a gun at a woman. When police arrived, they tried to speak to the man but he went into one of the apartments.
A standoff ensued and police tried to talk to the man by phone, but the conversations were short and sporadic. However, a few hours later, 45-year-old Albert Gerrard LeRay walked out of the apartment and was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators located a BB gun they believe LeRay had used. They also discovered that LeRay and the woman had, at one point, been in a domestic relationship and there had been some type of argument.
LeRay is now facing one count of menacing, one count of fourth-degree assault and one count of second-degree criminal mischief. He also had a warrant from an unrelated case.
Get this man a REAL gun!!! It's his 2nd Amendment right, and that CANNOT be infringed upon!!!! Anyone who would deny this CITIZEN his Constitutional rights must hate America and want Obama to be Dictator For Life!!! It's a travesty that this poor, disenfranchised Citizen had to resort to anything less than a REAL and Lethal Firearm -- what would the Founding Fathers say if they knew he was Deprived of his Constitutional rights to FEND OFF the abusive Government of BHO & his Minions?!?!?????!!!!!
Guess they don't have quite as strict of rules as Corvallis...ANYTHING that fires a projectile is considered a firearm in the City of Corvallis...that includes BB guns, cork guns, even slingshots...and you get caught shooting one, you get a ticket for "discharging a firearm" and the fine is the same...even for the cork pop guns.
too bad his eye didnt get shot out
I'll volunteer to flog him myself. That will save the tax payers a lot of jail and court processing money. In fact, I'll jam the BB-gun up his backside if you want me to.
My Question is what did the woman do to warrant him firing at her? was she thinking of vandalizing anything? Was it the woman herself that called the police or the neighbors? What did he feel that he had to shoot at her.?
 @lee986321 Oh, Lee -- you know that women are always "asking" to be shot at -- remember how women are just "jars" for male seed to be planted? Jars get uppity, women get shot, it's all just another day in your white trash town. Maybe you need to adjust the titanium plate in your head and remember why no woman would ever want to be with you...
 @badcat  @lee986321  LMAO!
 @lee986321 There is absolutely nothing a human can do to warrant attacking somebody with a BB gun. Who does that?! Ok...fair disclosure: I've done that.Â
Â
I'm not advocating this sort of crime, which some of it probably is, but, you should have seen Gee Pee trying to figure out what happened to his basketball...
 @lee986321Â
"When police arrived, they tried to speak to the man but he went into one of the apartments. A standoff ensued...."
Â
Fair evidence that the guy knew he was in the wrong, and not justified in firing at the woman. He could've just called the police himself, but chose not to do that. I know the story doesn't specify who called, but that's typical when they're trying to protect the caller from retaliation. This guy has probably caused all sorts of problems at this apartment complex and his neighbors are probably relieved to see him in custody. BTW, the story indicates the guy and the woman had been domestic partners, and for too many guys, that's justification enough to shoot a woman during an argument. Not at all surprising he had a warrant for an unrelated case..
You evidently have not heard of a high powered BB gun with an explosive tip that can down a deer or Elk have you well let me educate you on such a beast. The Bengimin Rogue .357
Caliber:9mm / 0.357
Velocity:1000 fps
Power Plant:Pre-charged pneumatic
Single Shot Or Repeater
And if the damn thing can down a hog or larger quarry like a deer or Elk, It can damn well bring a human down.
So best be re-thinking about Pellet Guns.

145 grain pellet .
Now who is laughing?
@lee986321 me. I can't help laughing at people "hunting" in a fenced off area. Shooting fish in a barrel type thing!
*CONTROLLED HUNT IN A HIGH-FENCED ENVIRONMENT. Prostaffer Ed Schultz scores the first hog with the Benjamin Rogue .357.
Â
 @iamtroglodite I have a relative who built a special glass-walled building on his property to display his trophy collection. He goes all over the world and hunts things, stuffs them, and sticks them in his special trophy house. For awhile, there was an urban legend going around about a giant sturgeon pulled out of the Willamette in Oregon City. The photo was a hoax...it was caught somewhere else, but, for some reason he's one of the guys holding this ancient sturgeon, from wherever it was actually caught.
Â
I've only met him once, but, I view such "sportsmanship" as a sickness. My family of avid hunters did not believe in killing for sport.
Â
I read Bless the Beasts when I was a teenager.
 @iamtroglodite If I were to hunt it wouldn't be all for the kill but rather for getting out in nature and just enjoying it.. If we get some food, we get some food...if not at least we would have a good time still.
Grandfather always taught us Hunt all you want, but eat all what you take.
 @iamtroglodite Oh yea, ok Sory, I see what you are saying...Yeah... I disagree with the who fence thing myself, if one is going to hunt Do what my brother does...Go out and hike 20 miles and take a buddy and a horse or 2 . He does take an ATV sometimes.
sorry, man. I was not doubting the ability of a exploding pellet, just the "great white hunters" that hunt in a fenced area. Reminds me of a movie I saw when I was a teen called "Bless The Beasts and The Children" They had some "great white hunters" bragging about their weapons too, as they shot buffalo in a fenced off area. Ah, yes! Sportsmen all the way! NOT!!!!
 @iamtroglodite Lets see explosive tip on a pellet, you don't think that can't do harm a 1,000 fps?
 @iamtroglodite  @lee986321 Screw the fenced part talking about the gun.
He must feel so manly firing a BB gun at a woman...It's on track with making your own beef jerky while listening to AC/DC
@mikeyb123 Hey, easy on AC/DC!
 @iamtroglodite OK...OK...but beef jerky?! So chewy!
@Playanekes Guess I am. I have never been afraid of a little spice in my life. Never been to the factory. I have, though, spent more than my fair share of time at the Rogue Brewery. I try a few different brews every time I go. My idea of a good day in Newport is to take my crab nets down on the pier, bait them, throw them in and head up to the brewery. I drink a stout on site, pick one I have not tried (or,at least don't remember) and take it back to drink at the pier. I pull in the nets, put any keepers in my cooler, drink my beer, head back up to do it all again. I keep repeating till I can't make it up there on my own. Damn, I love Oregon!
 @iamtroglodite You must be one of those Tabasco-liberals...
Â
(I toured the Tabasco factory a few years ago. FFS, I haven't had that much fun since the CS gas chamber at Quantico. They have this barrel if fermenting peppers you can smell, and if you're wearing contact lenses or you have a razor burn on your face, you can instantly wish you were dead. Saw an alligator, though. He probably wished I was dead too.)Â
Tough Jerkey IS getting difficult but; if you make your own, you can control how tough or dried out it is. I tend to get pretty liberal with the tabasco, so my wife has me make two half batches, one with one without.
 @mikeyb123 So... the indians dried meat for centuries. Were you referring to the AC/DC or is this some sort of white hipster superiority thing?
 @Playanekes ^Feel better?
 @Playanekes JUUUUUST RIGHT.
 @mikeyb123 Yeah. I'm sorry, did I pull your hair too hard?
Crap man I just posted The BB gun stuff just as a example of how deadly these things can be..But Dang to read about it in the news..What the Hell... !
The cops love it when you bring a BB gun to a (REAL) gun fight.
Oh dear, now it's time to put a ban on BB guns. We don't want kids putting their eyes out.
 @scoreboardÂ
That joke was only funny the first 400 times we heard it..
Could not help noticing the "NOW LEASING" sign out front. His apartment will be vacant!
Do you mean that people aren't going to get used to this? I wonder if someone parked in his space and he felt "disrespected"?
I remember when Gresham was a bedroom community, a nice safe place for families.Â
@Kachina Can you say "Thank you,Max.
 @Kachina It still is. You just have to watch for the apartment complexes and the--well, my dad would use a different term--non-local transplants who brought their crime with them.
Â
Technically, that used to be a bunch of alder and blackberries behind old Reynolds High School. Wouldn't a casino have just made it SO much more pleasant?
 @Kachina It still is for most of us.  However when Gresham got light rail and also added more surrounding areas including the Rockwood area which has a bigger share of criminal element it hurt. When I lived near that area 30 years ago it was part of Portland.  Lower rents seem to bring in a different population.  Not in this case particularly but perhaps housing standards may let in questionable renters. Â
 @my2cents  @Kachina Rockwood used to be a nice place too but it was victimized by subsidized housing and light rail. The sign of the times was when the jeep dealership became a pawn shop and the Portland Music turned into a methadone clinic. Â
Â
Now it is a bathroom community. Too much crap going on.
Times are hard and people are on edge. I am thinking this will only get worse as the new year gets old....real old.
 @RalphCramdenÂ
Times are indeed hard, but the vast majority of poor people and others struggling financially manage to navigate life without victimizing others. This guy is an ordinary criminal who shouldn't be allowed within 1,000ft of a firearm, if he's allowed to remain free at all. Criminals love blaming a tough economy for their crimes, but the truth is they do what they do regardless of the economy.

 @Dr. Rawdog  @RalphCramden Ralph doesn't need statistics, he's been waiting "for the end" from inside his bunker for a while now....he SWEARS it'll happen any day now.
 @Dr. Rawdog  @deejm2112  @RalphCramden Really? You're waiting for hyper-inflation? Who would do that?
Â
Maybe you guys just need to take a deep breath...
