SHERWOOD, Ore. – A 46-year-old man faces DUII and assault charges after his pickup truck crashed into a car near Sherwood Monday night, deputies said.

The crash happened on Southwest Tonquin Road just before 8 p.m., according to Sgt. Vance Stimler with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the pickup, James Wygant of Sherwood, was injured in the crash, but the Stimler expects him to survive. Medics took Wygant to a hospital.

Two Tennessee men were inside the other car. They were not seriously hurt and did not need to go to a hospital.

Stimler said Wygant’s blood alcohol content was “substantially higher” than the legal limit of 0.08. Deputies believe Wygant was driving the truck on the wrong side of the road before the crash.

Deputies cited Wygant for DUII and assault (fourth degree).
