SALEM, Ore. - Salem police are investigating after a man was found dead by a roadway near a Walmart in Salem Tuesday morning.

Devan R. Matlock, 21, of Salem, was found about a quarter mile from the location where four other people died in a house fire, but police have not said the incidents are related.

A Sara Lee truck driver found Matlock early Tuesday morning on Fisher Road NE, just south of Devonshire Avenue NE behind a Walmart store. The location is also a short distance from where Interstate 5 runs through Salem.

Police are still investigating the circumstances around Matlock's death but the medical examiner said he died from trauma to the head. No other details were released.

Fisher Road was closed between Devonshire and Wilton Avenue while investigators worked at the scene.

Meanwhile, a few blocks away on Fisher Road NE, crews battled a fire at a home. Lt. Dave Okada with Salem Police said an adult woman and three children were found dead in the home.

He said they had all been murdered before the fire started.
