LA CENTER, Wash. – Clark County Sheriff’s Deputies said charges are pending against a man who led deputies on a high-speed chase Tuesday morning before crashing on Interstate 5 in Vancouver.

Deputies said the adult male driver, who has not been identified, tried to flee in his Ford Focus when a deputy attempted to pull him over at about 6 a.m. on Interstate 5 near the 319th Street / La Center  Road overpass near La Center.

Deputies said the man was “creating a danger to all other motorist on the highway” as he sped south down I-5. An attempt to disable the Ford with spike strips near NE 99th Street didn’t work but the driver then crashed near the East 39th Street overpass in Vancouver.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening head and chest injuries, deputies said. The car had Michigan plates.

So far, no charges have been announced but deputies said they are pending. The Washington State Patrol also assisted in the pursuit.
