Man hit by car in Hazel Dell dies at hospital

HAZEL DELL, Wash. – A pedestrian died at a hospital after he was hit by a car in Hazel Dell on Wednesday evening, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

It happened near the intersection of Northeast Highway 99 and 78th Street just after 5 p.m.

The sheriff’s office said James Joseph Grubbs, 45, was not in a crosswalk when he was hit. There was heavy traffic on the highway.

The Columbian reports Grubbs was crossing the highway to meet a friend at a coffee shop.

Grubbs was hit by a Ford Mustang. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The sheriff’s office said there were no signs that the driver was impaired. No charges are being considered.
