Police: Man playing with gun shoots TV; bullet goes into nearby home

SALEM, Ore. -- Police said a Salem man who had been drinking while playing with a gun ended up shooting his own television.
The incident happened just before midnight July 14 in the 4000 block of Cranston Street Southeast in Salem. Steve Birr of the Salem Police Department said Robert Edward Walters, 54, was entertaining himself and his dog with a laser scope on his gun. He eventually pointed it at someone on the television and pulled the trigger, forgetting the gun was loaded.
The bullet went through the wall into an adjacent home where five people were. One of those residents then called police.
Walters was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and five counts of reckless endangering.
Damn Bubba Louie, if you didn't like the show, change the channel.
Rule #1, The gun is always loaded!!!
Ahh...the 'Elvis Presley Mute Button' lives on!
(Elvis used a .44 magnum, but we don't know what caliber this specimen prefers.)
@Henry Bowman -- (sorry, but "Reply" still doesn't work with Firefox) -- About the MSNBC thing . . . . read this morning that MicroLimp has pulled out of its contract with on-line NBC, so there is no longer an MS-NBC. But I get your point!
@Gravity Works!  @Henry That will probably just cause them to tilt even further left.
Â
By the way, I think reply does work (usually), its just that it sometimes takes a while for it to figure out where the reply goes. I can't tell you how many times I've posted something and had it show up as a top level post and I deleted it to try again. Very frustrating!
I have often wanted to shoot my TV set -- fortunately, my wife insists that I don't do it.
This is why I practice at the CC Training center in Clackamas instead the local rock quarries. To many idiots out there with just enough brains to load a firearm and no sense on how to handle one.
Â
The Training center is full of cops, you don't screw around in there. I've watched them kick people out for screwing around. I like that.
@JohnQ.Public There Are Idiots That Dont Know How To Handle A Gun And There Are People That Are Drunk And Disoriented That Just Do Something By Accident.Â
Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.
 @getvocal Here'ssss your sign!
Never dry fire and always check the chamber. Idiot.
@Obongo Geddon There's plenty of occasion to dry-fire, (tap-rack drills, etc) as long as you're not pointing the weapon at anything you're not prepared to destroy.
Â
Beyond that, at the very least the weapon should be confiscated and he should be required to attend a weapon safety course (at his expense...and showing lots of gruesome gun accident photos) before he's allowed to carry again. Plus everything else, minimum.

@donny it's Oregon, not a lot of GOP support in the Pacific North-Wet, too much water on the brain, which is why they keep voting DNP!
@donny Comrade donny: Whenever I visit this vast wasteland populated mostly by evil, rich (please forgive the redundancy) Republicans and their brainwashed minions, I am always relieved to see your thoughtful (and thought provoking), level headed, and compassionate lies and distortions on any of today's major issues. Thankfully, unlike some other operatives we have posting here, you skillfully avoid ever even hinting at the truth This clearly shows that you are, indeed, a man/woman/other who has benefitted much from the efforts of the Party to condition the ignorant masses. Any similarly enlightened person who reads your pithy discourses can not but be moved to Revolutionary action by your words.
Â
Please be aware that I am putting in a good word for you at Party headquarters.
@donny where did you come up with that? Typical liberal pulling something extreme from something completely unrelated
@franksbeans  @donny Bush made him do it!!
@HenryBowman @donny roflmfao
@donny I'm still waiting for George Bush to declare martial law and reinstate the draft like you fruitbats promised in 2003. Where's the draft?Â
Â
What does Janet Reno have to say about this?
"He's not an intellectual giant, nor does he play one on TV."
Â
I think he was just mad at the television program that kept interrupting his commercials.
OMG ... Somebody puh-leeze take the gun(s) away from this guy ~ give him one of those pen-laser things to play with!    Guns are NOT TOYS!
Â
Proving once again, you just can't fix stupid...
I didn't read he was booked into jail, so is this a mugshot from a prior arrest?
@cncgotoguy This Would Be A Mug Shot.
Â
What a Dufus.
How'd this happened, he looks like a genius?
After looking at his picture a second time, I see the problem!
@swimbad It's the eyes. They'll do it to you every time.
That perpetually surprised look.
Â
(But I don't think anyone has ever NOT had a desire to shoot the TV on occasion.)
Licensed gun owner?
 @Rob C Nonsensed gun owner.
@Rob C There is no "license" for owning a gun.
Â
This country is in serious trouble when citizens don't know the laws...
I hope that is not his best photo.
Why am I hearing banjo music?
Idiots are giving guns a bad name!
Hold on there, now. How do we know Mr. Walters is an idiot? I blame the dog's fascination with the laser pointer.
I know they say "kill your TV" but watch out for who's behind it!
Had to be watching MSNBC to evoke that kind of anger.
@HenryBowman Nancy Grace and her hair helmet.
