Man posing as fire inspector, scamming businesses, police say
Police are looking for this man, seen in a surveillance photo, who is accused of visiting Northwest Portland businesses posing as a fire inspector and asking for money for his fake services.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police are looking for a man who they said went to several Northwest Portland businesses last month posing as a fire inspector.

The man said he was checking fire extinguisher tags and asked for cash payment for his services.

He visited the businesses on Jan. 15, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man who is 6’ to 6’4’’ tall with a heavy build. Police said he has short, salt and pepper-colored hair and speaks with a “heavy East coast accent.” He may be driving a silver Ford F250 pickup truck.

Portland Fire and Rescue is reminding businesses that fire inspectors will always wear official uniforms, have proper identification and will never request money.

Police want to hear from other businesses that were targeted by the suspect. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Captain Greg Wong at 503-823-3796.
