Man shot by robbery suspect in NE Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. – A man was shot early Sunday morning in Northeast Portland after two men attempted to rob him, police said.
Timothy Cawley, 34, was walking on the 5800 block of Northeast Alberta Street at around 12:30 a.m. when two masked men approached him and demanded money, according to police. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and fired two shots at Cawley, who was grazed by a bullet on his forearm.
Police said the suspects ran away. Cawley was treated at the scene.
Neighbors who live nearby told KATU News they're lucky no one else was hurt in the shooting because several homes were in the line of fire.
"That was really scary when they found a shell there and a shell there," said neighbor Brent Wallace. "I was up pretty late because they kept checking my house for bullet holes."
It’s unclear if the suspects got away with any money.
Police said they do not believe the shooting was gang related.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Detective Heidi Helwig at (503) 823-0400.
