Man shot in NE Portland; police search for suspect
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police are looking for a man who they said shot another man in the leg Saturday night in Northeast Portland.
It happened near Northeast 92nd Avenue and Oregon Street at around 7 p.m.
Police said the victim is a Hispanic man in his 40s. He’s expected to be OK.
Police don’t think the shooting was gang-related or random. They believe the suspect and victim know each other.
Neighbors said the shooting was unsettling, especially after a man was gunned down outside a nearby tavern three month ago.
“You hate anything happening in your neighborhood,” said neighbor Dale Lidbom.
“Very spooky,” said Cathy Finley. “I live right around the corner, and come looking for my kitty, and I hear from you that there was a shooting.”
“I heard a shot. Actually, I thought it was a firecracker,” said Lidbom. “Then I see this gentleman running down the street. Then I realized about ten minutes later, all these policemen started showing up, and it wasn’t a firecracker, it was one - he shot once.”
Officers and K-9 units searched the neighborhood, but didn’t find the shooter, or a gun.
Lidbom said he didn’t get a good look at the man who ran away, and didn’t know to call for help at the time.
“I just seen the back of him. He had dark clothing, and had the silver bands on the jacket, you know the reflector bands, and that was it.”
hes expected to be OK.but will not make a full recovery: all star writing up here peopleÂ
Illegal alien with a illegal gun??? Hey Charlie... about time to reverse the Sam Legacy???
Really sick and tired of reading the news everyday and seeing all of this Hispanic crime in our neighborhoods. I agree, it's not the guns that are the problem but the majority of crime is being committed by mexicans who swear they are just here to make a better life for themselves and their communities. Get rid of the Mexicans and we would solve half of our budget problems and crime. quit defending them! They all carry knives and guns. Does your child? Or did you bring them up to respect our laws?
@stinger139 I agree about the ones here illegaly, especialy the wanna-be gangsters and the drug dealers, but not all Mexicans are here illegaly, just like not all German, Italian,Norwegen, Danes etc. Just because someone is of "Hispanic", "Mexican" or whatever ancestory does not make them evil criminals. Hell, my ancestors were Irish and Danish; Does that make me evil? Irish gangs on the east coast were considered some bad folk back in the day, so am I evil?
@iamtroglodite@yahoo.com@stinger139 Getting rid of the central- and South American little brown people Americans collectively call "the Mexicans" won't work in a politically-driven civilization because politicians pander to those demographics. Also, the community colleges are filled with many of them who are trying to come here legally, and those people have just as much right to be here as a Russian or a German. The David Douglas school district alone serves people of over 70 different languages.
Â
The problem is that certain community has demonstrably lost control of its youth subculture and you can witness this yourself in places like Rockwood and the southern Californian barrios. People who are native to this community and remember what it was like before the government rezoned Rockwood for subsidized poverty. If Dutch Aryans were the scourge of Multnomah County and the public transit system, you would like find people like Stinger directing their ire in that direction. Dadgum clog-wearing MFers.
So the left leaning government wants to get rid of certain kinds of guns, OK, do it. As long as you also put as much effort in getting rid of certain kinds of people, that make use of certain guns. Shall I spell it out for you? Gang bangers, illegals, crazy folks that due to political correctness are allowed to buy guns.
@last boyscout Check out the drugs.com entry for Ambien:
Â
"Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: depression, anxiety, aggression, agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts, hallucinations, memory problems, changes in personality, risk-taking behavior, decreased inhibitions, no fear of danger, or thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself."
Â
How come all the people who were howling about legalizing marijuana because the Drug Industry is Bad, M'kay, are not howling about pharmaceutical effects all of a sudden? What percentage of these people are ON these drugs?
Â
Maybe if we stamp the same warning on the side of semiautomatic weapons it will reduce the minute percentage of people who experience wildly unpredictable side-effects.
"Man shot in NE Portland..."
Â
Wow. That's like, never happened before. :-P

@Tom dogboy Collins Pretty cool with the light behind him like that!
@Tom dogboy Collins Ummm, That's a Police Officer.
"They believe the suspect and victim know each other."Â The police said that.
"Lidbom said he didnât get a good look at the man who ran away, and didnât know to call for help at the time."Â The so called victim said that.
I am damn sure that the police was wrong. Of course they didn't know each other, they just come here to do the job they are doing best that is making the USA another Mexico.Â
@tptpttp Are you native to the United States? By your writing skills, it seems not. I have Hispanic students - direct from Mexico - in my 4th grade class who could write your last two sentences without any errors whatsoever. (You have three.) My Hispanic students work hard at everything they do. Give it a try.
@gofigure  @tptpttp What kind of weapons does your 4th graders Prefer? The knives or guns? What gangs are they affiliated to?
@gofigure I guess NONE of us humans are local to the land we have lived in for centuries today if we are PC.
I do not have a problem with the Hispanic students who most likely drank WIC milk and juice and ate beans and rice on my/our dime (taxpayers)...however a problem arises when the baggage is included...the family that are legally ...Illegal and are not learning English at a reasonable pace. I guess that is it.
""...about ten minutes later, all these policemen started showing up...""Â I don't think anything more need be said.
@HenryBowman ......when seconds count, police are just minutes away. That's not a slam on Police. Just an observation that they can't be everywhere and for the most part........they are reactive. Certainly that's true here in Portland.
North East was quiet there for a while. Hadn't been a shooting in what, 8-9 days!
Only one shot heard? I guess it wasn't one of those high-capacity magazine, assault-looking weapons then, huh? Surprised that the suspect actually hit the victim then. Maybe there wasn't even a shooter, only the mean firearm that decided to shoot all by itself?
@jpk He was shooting at the Mayor's 600-round-per-minute rate of fire, and so the rapport sounded like a single gunshot.
@jpk  Maybe there was only one shot because the shooter limp-wristed it and ended up with a stovepipe he didn't know how to clear. Lots of skels don't know how to use the guns they've stolen..
@jpk  "...the mean firearm that decided to shoot all by itself..." I hate when that happens...
@HenryBowman  @jpk That's why I keep my guns locked up. you never know when they might turn on you; and that reminds me, I should probably lock up all the knives in my house too before they start getting funny ideas.
@JohnQ.Public  @HenryBowman  @jpk This is my Ka-Bar. There are many like it, but this one is mine. But never turn your back on a meat cleaver.
