Gresham murder: 'I personally think this was a random act of violence'

GRESHAM, Ore. - A man was shot and killed at a Gresham apartment complex and police are working on tracking down the suspects.
The crime happened around 6:40 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Northeast Paropa Court.
Police were called there after residents reported hearing gunshots. One neighbor said he saw a man running near the victim's townhouse to a car that was parked nearby. The suspects then took off.
Police said the victim was 23-year-old Shane M. Brumbaugh. An autopsy revealed he died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the state medical examiner's office.
"I personally think this was a random act of violence," the neighbor, who said he was a friend of the victim and only wanted to be known as Ray, told KATU. "Like I said, he was just a good kid. He helped me remodel my kitchen floors, cabinets, counters - all of that. He just came over to help me."
Ray said the Brumbaugh's girlfriend came over to return some borrowed movies just before the shooting. He said once everything happened, he tried to give CPR to his friend but Brumbaugh died.
"He was a really good young person," he said.
Police believe a suspect vehicle drove away from the area at a high speed. Anyone who noticed a fast-moving vehicle in the area or who has information that can help investigators is asked to call the Gresham Police Department.
I'd known Shane since he was about 3 yrs old, I've always known him to be a sweet & good kid. I used to babysit him. His mother is devastated to say the least & it has shaken myself, my brother & my son. Please have some respect for those of his family & friends who are still here & DO not refer to him in deragatory terms.
having known the POS I would have to assume drug deal gone bad, he was a real loser and the world is better with out him, now if the same thing could happen to his dealer
I would bet the shooter ends up being someone who knew the victim and knew him well.

Of course it was random.  The neighbor who is an expert said it was.  He needed to say something to get his few seconds of fame.  Of course, maybe the  reporter put the words in his mouth.  No way, reporters wouldn't do something like that.  It's too bad.  Gresham, years ago used to be one of the best places to live in the area.  Then they replaced the berry and bean fields with apartments and strip malls.  Typical of what happens to an area when you do that.
Ray saw a lot - the girlfriend and the running away suspect... Just wanted to add some gas into the rumor engine.

It doesn't seem random to me. According to KGW, this looks like a hit.
Hmm. Just speculation here, but it happened right after the girlfriend left the apartment? How convenient. Perhaps a love triangle gone wrong?

NE Portland...Mar 7th...man kills wife
For those you can't seem to understand the difference between Gresham and Rockwood. It's finally come to "Gresham"...but just a reminder that it's still the best area to live in...this side of 181st. I've been here for 38 years...and don't single Gresham out as you morons like to do. You're not immune to any of this. This happened within blocks of my home...and I'd still prefer living here then anywhere else in the Portland area.
Fracas, you're right. Rockwood makes up 10 percent of the Gresham population.
The cops are working overtime to clean up this section of town, even putting in a new
police sub station. They will succeed. I have confidence in their effort.Â
'I personally think this was a random act of violence'...I personally think Gresham is a random act of violence...just sayin'.

Doesn't sound at all "random" to me !
Sorry. People don't generally get randomly shot by someone who stops by their apartment to do so. That's not "random".

@Dr. Rawdog @Portlander29 HA! Another good one!
My hunch is that the police know who the shooter is, and that it's just a matter of time before an arrest will be made.
Random? Â Someone goes to a particular apartment complex and kills someone who's minding their own business? Â Maybe I'm misunderstanding the meaning of "random".

From another news sources, "Investigators said this was an isolated incident and neighbors in the area are not in danger." Â Maybe THAT'S the definition of random.
The daily gresham murder update.
Yeah between these and the daily killed in a car accident story, lot's of people are dying.
My heart goes out to the family of the victim. I wish the police well in figuring out what happened, why and who is responsible. There must be much more to this story. There is too much violence all around us these days; it's heart breaking.

I doubt very much it was a "random act of violence".
