HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. – A man died after an early morning stabbing at a party in Happy Valley, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies took the suspect, 24-year-old George Gardea, into custody after a standoff at the Easton Ridge apartments. Gardea faces charges including homicide and assault.

The sheriff’s office said deputies found a wounded man near 9009 S.E. Causey Avenue. Witnesses told deputies that the suspect ran to a nearby apartment.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Marcos Fielder of Portland. The Clackamas County Medical examiner said Fielder's cause of death was homicide by multiple sharp force injuries.

The sheriff's office said Fielder and Gardea did not know each other before the party Sunday night.

The Clackamas County SWAT team was called to the scene after Gardea barricaded himself inside the apartment.

The sheriff’s office said Gardea (photo at right) was taken into custody and the standoff was over around 5 a.m.

Joe Beck lives at the complex and said saw all the police activity.

"They had police dogs out, walking back and forth, looking for somebody obviously," he said.

A witness called the KATU newsroom overnight and said he was at a late night birthday party for a 19-year-old at the apartments. There was a fight, so he started to leave. As he was walking home, he saw the stabbing suspect run out and barricade himself in another apartment just two buildings over. That's when the SWAT team was called.

Beck also saw the standoff.

"They were telling him to come out with his hands up, you know eventually I guess he did, I went back inside. I really didn't know what was going down."
