Man stabbed in SE Portland, police say suspect is 14 years old
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Police made two arrests Thursday in Southeast Portland after an 18-year-old man was stabbed during a confrontation and assault.
Police said a 14-year-old suspect was arrested on attempted murder and assault charges. A 15-year-old was also arrested on assault charges. Police said it appeared the incident was gang-related.
Police said a 13-year-old male was with the two older teens when they got into a verbal confrontation with Juan Antonio Bermundez, 18, near the corner of SE 49th and Dickinson Street at about 7:30 p.m.
Police said the three young teens were in a minivan during the verbal confrontation and the two older males got out and assaulted Bermundez. He was stabbed multiple times, police said.
He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
The trio fled in the minivan but were stopped by police nearby and the two older teens, who have not been identified, were taken into custody without incident, investigators said.
The 13-year-old was not charged with any crimes and was released to his parents. The two other teens were taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.
I can leave race out of this one, just this once. But what I will not leave out, is the primary factor, the primary reason that these crimes occur. And the reason is the near complete lack of a decent male figure in these kids lives.  Like the other comment stated, "no father figure". What the f will it take before society (liberals for the most part) will pull their so called open minded heads of of their assezz and admit the destruction of the family unit is the main reason for all gang activity? I'll wager my right to comment of this site that all of the little kids involved do (not) live with both of their paternal parents at home. Broken effed up families with multiple boyfriends etc...are the cause of most bad acting kids. But what does our PC society tell us? it's not PC to point out those facts. They don't conform with the liberal ideology.
 @last boyscout As a (gasp) liberal, happily married for many years - and raising two productive, contributing members of society........I agree with you.  They never ended up on the streets causing trouble because they knew it wouldn't fly.  It also wouldn't have been acceptable had I been a single parent........and they knew that.  Being a conservative does not give you the lock on morals or ethics. Â
 @Somonecaresaboutsomething Understood, but it's not the conservatives that have been pushing marriage as a novelty and celebrating unwed mothers since the late 60's. You're the exception to the rule, we have nut's on my side too. Plenty of them:-) Â
3 kids, probably no father figure, never spanked, and bottle fed entitlements all their lifes so they can steal a van and menace with as many people as they can on a non-school day. What's a mother to do? In to the "SYSTEM" they will go.
Actually, Thursday was a school day. Homie don't need no school!

 @Dr. Rawdog Oh, I'm pretty sure you could have figured out SOMETHING to do in a minivan.  Use your imagination, young man.  Regardless of age, sex/vehicles go together like...oh, who cares?  It's fun, dangerous, fun, risky, fun, scandalous, fun, teenage-ish and a whole lot of fun.
For those or you who are thinking how could a little 14 year old boy do such a thing there are some pretty big 14 year olds out there and some of them are very violent. They think nothing of injuring or killing another human being.

Yet the law treats them special and the kids know it. The are willing to be more aggressive because the worst than can happen to them, in their minds, is that they will get juvy time.

I'm all for late-term abortions.. in this case, at 13, 14 and 15 years. Neuter the 18 year old loser and the next time he gets himself into a 'situation', he can stitch himself up.
So,we have a 13,14,and15 year old cruising around in a minivan,assaulting people.Daddy better stop letting Jr. have the keys to the van,at least until he is old enough to get a learners permit.
 @angry1 well, they will eventually get caught by the police or , they will be shot dead by a citizen.
If only there had been a gun involved.
Sounds like we need a youth / knives rehab program to curb this type of violence.

@DadInPDX @sargerator Only the black "assault" type knives, though, you know, the ones that let you stab ten times faster.....<sarc> So they release one of the kids to parents.....need to find out who the idiot parents were who let underage, unlicensed kids take their mini-van on a joyride. And they need to pay this victims medical bills.
