Man trying to cross I-205 on bike still in serious condition

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 40-year-old bicyclist who was struck on Interstate 205 last week when he attempted to cross the freeway has been identified as Daniel Benjamin Albertsen.

Albertsen remained in serious condition Tuesday at a Portland hospital.

No citations have been issued in the case, Portland police said.

The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. Aug. 15 in the northbound lanes of I-205 at the Killingsworth overpass.

Albertsen was riding in the right shoulder along the interstate when he started to cross over toward the center median, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson. A driver in the northbound lanes then hit Albertsen.

The driver was going the speed limit and stayed to cooperate with police after the crash, police said.

Witnesses said Albertsen had a dog on a leash with him, but officers could not find the animal. On Tuesday, police said the dog still hadn't been found.
