Man who shot, killed police chief moved to state hospital

ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) — A Washington state man charged with killing the Rainier, Ore., police chief in 2011 has been transferred from jail to the Oregon state mental hospital in Salem.
Columbia County, Ore., Sheriff Jeff Dickerson tells the Daily News of Longview that Daniel Butts was moved Monday.
On Feb. 27, Circuit Court Judge Ted Grove found the 23-year-old Kalama, Wash., man mentally impaired and unable to assist in his defense. The judge ordered Butts sent to the mental hospital to be treated and forcibly medicated until he is fit to return to Columbia County for trial.
Butts is charged with aggravated murder in the fatal shooting of Chief Ralph Painter on Jan. 5, 2011, after Painter responded to a report of a suspicious person at a car stereo shop.
He shoulda been moved to a wet spot and then plugged into a wall socket! Zizzle, snap, crackle and pop would have corrected him and would have been cheaper!
If he is not insane now he will be after a few years of doing the Thorzine Shuffle.

@feral       What his mother did give him was a family history on his mothers side of schizophrenia, she has been commited at least once, that is general knowledge.
@feral  Quit trolling; everybody knows that marijuana just makes people gay and vote Democratic and believe in global warming and big bang and evolution and all that sciency type stuff...
Don't put him out of his misery. Â I want him to suffer long and hard. Â Unfortunately, with the do-gooders and head doctors out there, we can't be guaranteed that, so put him out of everyone's misery.
@Shadow So you appreciate that people with mental illness suffer...at least that is a start.  Next, try to develop compassion for others and a desire to...at least....mitigate human suffering as a worthy objective or at least not to perpetuate suffering needlessly or to take joy in the suffering of others. Â
Put him out of his misery and save the tax-payers from having to pay for his defense and "storage".
And the dumb ass wins. He was sane when he committed his crime, he was sane when he got into a fight with the police chief, he was sane when he pulled the chiefâs pistol, he was sane when he killed the Chief, but NOW he is a tater-tot, you know who ought to be ashamed of themselves is his defense lawyer. I wonder how they would feel about representing them if he killed one of their family members and pulled the tater-tot routine?
Man who shot Rainier police chief being moved to state mental hospital... Come on, is this really that challenging for the writer ?
"man who shot dead police chief..."
Why is he being charged with murder if he shot a DEAD police chief? That's abuse of a corpse at worst.
Yes, of course I'm as horrified by what he did as anyone else, just shaking my head at *another* horrid headline

Dang everyone beat me too it...anyway my condolences to the family and an apology for all of us trying to find a little humor in the extremely poor title by KATU...
Definitely mentally unstable to shoot a dead police chief. Surprised they even had to have him evaluated.
P.O.S. Â I'm done too!
Can I write the next article?
So...Butts is nuts. I'm done here.
Headline:
Man who shot dead police chief moved to state hospital
If he was already dead, what is his crime? Geez KATU, get some writers with an education above 2nd grade!
Gee whiz KATU..so the Police Chief was already dead when he shot him?
Nice headline K2 - Why would a man shoot a dead police chief?
@wondering The headline was obviously written by an intellectually challenged person who couldn't pass a fourth grade english composition test. It is hard to imagine KATU going any further downhill on the writing scale but they manage to do it on a daily basis. Sad.
@wondering You beat me to it lol
