More sex abuse charges filed against West Salem coach
Emrance Berger mug shot from Polk County Jail.

WEST SALEM, Ore. – More charges have been filed against a 30-year-old West Salem High School basketball coach accused of having sex with an underage student after another victim came forward, according to a law enforcement source contacted by On Your Side Investigator Anna Canzano.

Emrance Berger now faces one count of first-degree sodomy and 10 counts of second-degree sex abuse, the source said. The new charges were filed last Wednesday.

Police arrested Berger, accusing him of having sex with an underage student, in February, according to the Salem Police Department. Police said Berger had sex with a girl who is under 16 years old.

They said he has been the assistant varsity coach and the head junior varsity coach at the school.

Police said they are concerned there may be more victims because of Berger’s access to children.

According to the law enforcement source, the latest victim contacted Salem police and told them she had a sex with Berger several years ago when she was a student at West Salem High School.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Detective Jeff Staples at (503)540-2351.
