Icy roads make for a slick morning commute

PORTLAND, Ore. - Freezing fog made for a slick morning commute on Friday.
Numerous accidents were reported throughout the Portland metropolitan area as drivers lost control on some of the icy spots. And there were a number of closures and delayed openings as well.
According to KATU Meteorologist Joe Raineri, by Friday afternoon the highs will reach the upper 30s to low 40s and over the next few days it will stay cool and dry. The overnight low for Friday will be around 27 degrees.
By 6:30 am it really wasn't that bad.
Road salt. Â Problem solved.
The people in Portland's idea of slowing down is to only go 10 or 15 over the speed limit. Nothing like it, is there? People driving on slick streets, talking on a cell phone and they can't figure out why they crashed.  Insurance companies shouldn't pay any claims these idiots file.
I'm getting too old and lazy to keep driving a stick but on icy days I grateful.
My car was frozen shut this morning but wasn't the worst I experienced.
Â
There is very little to no ice downtown so don't worry about what things will be like there (FYI).
Slow and steady wins the race.Â
Listening to the online police scanner this morning, it was wreck after wreck with not much time in between them. Thankfully, most seemed to be non-injury accidents. Slower is always the better way to go. Better to get to your destination late then not at all.
Drive slower and leave more space ahead of you. I'm lazy and don't want to have to react to every flash of a brake light. Fall back and destress your trip!
Those of you with four wheel drive vehicle - remember four wheel drive doesn't mean four wheel stop.Â
Â
Don't be stupid - slow down.
@scoreboard Really?  All of my wheels have an independent brake caliper.  (yeah, yeah, I get it).
 @Festivus Funny...almost. :)
I think I'll just hang tight and let the wrecks clear up before heading to work.
Time to slow it down a bit. If you do not have to be on the roads, better to stay off and be safe. I usually just putt along when the weather turns like this. If I have to work, I leave extra early. The pucker factor kicks in on occasion also.
Â
Hopefully only slight fender benders and no major ones.
