PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland's Morrison Bridge will be closed on Sunday.
Multnomah County spokesman Mike Pullen said the bridge will be closed starting at 7 a.m. to give crews a chance to inspect its lift span deck.
The closure could last until as late as 5 p.m.
The deck, which was installed on the lift span in 2011, has shown some signs of premature wear, according to the Multnomah County website.
"This is part of the ongoing investigation into why the deck is showing premature wear," Pullen told KATU.
Multnomah County is suing Conway Construction, which installed the decking as well as the company that made the materials and the company that supplied the materials.
The trial is scheduled to begin in the fall.
Both on and off-ramps from the bridge to Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 will be closed. The I-5 southbound City Center/Morrison Bridge off-ramp (exit 300) will also be closed.
The I-5 southbound ramp to Highway 99E/U.S. 26 will remain open, Pullen said in a news release.
Additional Morrison Bridge closures are scheduled for Sunday, March 23 and Saturday, April 12.
