PORTLAND, Ore. - A short police chase ended with a violent crash.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. at Southeast 164th and Stark.
Officers on the scene told us a man on a motorcycle that they tried to pull over sped off and was going around 100 miles per hour when he smacked into the back of a parked van.
People who heard the crash said it sounded like the motorcyclist didn't try to hit the brakes. He was later identified as 30-year-old Christopher Lee Philpot.
Philpot was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police on the scene said it appeared he had some broken bones.
Speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in what happened. Philpot has not yet been charged but a Vehicular Crimes Team is investigating.
