No more slaps on the wrist for flash robbers

PORTLAND, Ore. - Multnomah County is cracking down on underage kids who take part in flash mob thefts.
Now, any juvenile caught stealing during a 'flash rob' will go to juvenile detention. Before, prosecutors would not pursue the low level misdemeanors and police could not take the juveniles to jail after they were caught.
There were at least four cases across Multnomah County this spring. Some were at convenience stores and others were at more high profile locations, like Nordstrom and Albertson's.
Those darn white kids at it again!
Store owners/managers should just start shooting them. It's cheaper to the tax payer.
So theyre going to do something about the racist black problem?
This should never have been tolerated anyhow! They should have been made to pay for this punk behavior if caught in the first place.
mistermeaner there going to laugh that off they need a much harsher prison punishment, send them to work camp, they might actually learn something.
They weren't prosecuting shoplifters at all if they did it in groups?
Who thought that was a good idea?
Any definite word yet on just how many of these gremlins have actually been caught? Just the percentage comparison: How many "flash robs" compared to Number of offenders actually correctly ID'd, apprehended and sent to face a judge? I'd love to see the statistics.
just start shooting the flash robbers as they steal from you, the rest will get the idea sooner or later and if they do not , they will get shot sooner or later. Either way problem solved.
Great idea. The gun nuts always come up with the best ones.
treat them like the criminals they are
How about a $50 ticket for wearing a hoodie to hide your face while inside a store, mall, or indoor shopping venue.
Good, teach these punks some lessons.  Or better yet, if you carry concealed then maybe it should always be "flash mob" season!
From the first "Flash Rob" or first theft, it should have been serious business. No slap on the wrist. They acted as a mob, which means they planned what they were going to do. Which means they were fully aware that what they were going to do was against the law. As they are thieves, they need to serve time. Not justing sitting in juvenile detention, but actual real serious jail for a bit. They are nor innocent kids playing a prank, they are a mob breaking the law. Luckily so far they have not been injured.
 @Just Lookin Totally agree, they make it sound like juvenile detention isn't some slap on the wrist.

I get complaints often for turning every story into a political rant against a particular ideology. How about I try something a little different. Make certain statistics available so that if any characteristics stand out, there may be a chance to modify the behavior for future social improvements. It would be interesting to know how many of those involved in all of the "flash robs" come from what used to be considered an "average" family structure. The kind that are becoming rare as society progresses (or regresses). The family where the parents were actually married prior to the child being born, where the father still lives at home with the mother etc...etc... Then compare that figure with that of the kids that don't have the ideal family life. Odds are most of the kids caught stealing do not. You can fault whomever you wish, but the further the family structure falls into decay, so falls society.
@last boyscout You don't have to adhere to any particular ideology to acknowledge that the problem with ghetto blacks is getting worse by the day.
@boyscout What does the number of parents in a household have to do whether or not people commit crimes? Plenty of children from single parent families never commit crimes, while many children from married couples do commit crimes. So your theory, whatever it is, makes no sense at all. And wth is an "average" family structure? What you consider "average"? I've never heard such loony ideas before. Mom got divorced so junior turned to robbery because he didn't come from an average famly Lol
 @The Voice of Reason Sorry VoR, I've neither the time nor inclination to spell-it-out for all of you, but the odds are heavy in favor that the majority of gang bangers,losers and convicts didn't have a decent father figure at home during their childhood. Are there exceptions to the rule where the kid grows up to be successful or even the president? Duh. There are always exceptions.Â
@last boyscout @The Voice of Reason Baby daddies are all doing time and or impregnating women right and left.My solution maybe harsh,but if they cant afford a entire litter,I'm for mandatory sterilization.

I do believe it all started when both parents had to go to work--some time after the late 50's.
 @jallard My point was towards most of those kids probably [don't] have both parents, and if there are two parents, they are not likely the child's paternal parents.
Â
And as for both parents [having] to be working, I can't type fast enough or leave my job at hand to go into the detail i'd like to about that. I think both parents working is mostly determined by the particular lifestyle that the parents choose to live. I can only base that on personal experience of being raised with four older brothers. For example, the first actual [new] car that our parents bought was after they were married for over 30 years! In other words, they only bought what they had to have. Â
 @last boyscoutÂ
No offense but somehow boyscout you make it sound slightly degrading that two parents have to or need to work, to sustain a living for their families. While I commend you parents for being frugal that was your family situation and yours alone. Raised by a single parent mother, in the 60s, there were times when my brothers and I only had elbow macaroni and butter to eat, while my mother drove an old Henry Hudson that could barely go uphill. There was no such thing as welfare back then and if there was my mother didn't qualify, because she made to much money as a waitress. Granted we grew up in a small town in Vermont, none of us kids were in gangs or committed crimes.Â
 @last boyscout I think you are right they don't seem to be Amish good point I didn't see that one coming....Â
If they would hammer these beginner criminals hard the first time, they might deter them from ever going any further. I am sure that wouldn't stop all of them but when criminals find out it is just a revolving door with no real consequences they will just continue. A few years of very diligent law enforcement and strict punishment would send a real strong message to the generations of delinquents we seem to be raising these days.
Who in the heck's idea was it in the first place that these thieves just got a slap on the wrist? Must have been Kitzhaber's or some other limp on crime democrat. What world do the slap on the wrist idiots live in where that's all it takes to curtail a burgeoning looser's criminal activity? An arrest record and Juvenal detention time at least. Â
Juvenile detention, what a joke. Â We'd all be better off if they were put in prison for a few weeks. Â After a few weeks as Bubba's new toys, I think they'd think twice before breaking the law again. Â Then again, with the mentality of the entitlement generation, maybe not.
Oh please. Nothing will happen to them. No doubt Jesse or Al will be screaming racism or something.
I wonder how fast the Albina Ministerial Alliance will object when all those black kids are arrested. From the flash mobs I have seen, all of them are black.
To hell with juvenile detention.If these future gang members want to commit adult crimes,they should be made to spend a liitle time in a federal prison right in with the adult population.
I'd say this was about 3 incidents overdue... it should have been implemented right from the start..!  Â
Â
Now we'll see how well it works when the next group decides to "challenge" it...
About time.
Oh, were they getting slaps on the wrists? I must have missed something. I'm sure the thought of juvenile detention for a the few minutes it takes their mommas to come fetch them, will really make them think twice.
 @LipsÂ
Hey Lips. How ya doing? Good to see you posting here again.
 @RalphCramden Hey Ralph, good to see you too. I have a few times, but it's not user friendly. Can't click on my dashboard to see what people are up to, where they're conversing, etc.
 @Lips My email server thinks it is spam. I finally got around to signing up by using a gmail account. Maybe my server knows something?
 @Lips  At least I can spell oxymoron without it coming out it coming out like oxy*****.
 @RalphCramden Yeah, no editing is lame. Must be a personal touch in the K2 spirit. I think it's funny that the spell check alerts you that you have misspelled words, but can't assist with options. Too funny.
 @LipsÂ
Yea, this forum really sucks big time. Can't edit and I have to log in a lot. Oh well. KATU is in charge and I am sure they don't care what we think.
