Mystery surrounds death of former Wash. state yo-yo champ
PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities in Phoenix still are trying to determine the events that led to the death of a former yo-yo champion from Washington state.
Phoenix police say 23-year-old Nathan DeWitt, originally from Mount Vernon, Wash., died early Wednesday after being taken to a hospital.
Police and Phoenix Fire Department crews responded to a rollover crash shortly after midnight and found an SUV on its side.
They say DeWitt crawled out of the vehicle and had been shot.
Police say it's still unclear if DeWitt died from the shooting wound, injuries from the crash or both.
Detectives say DeWitt possibly was at Christmas party before the shooting.
The Arizona Republic reported Thursday that DeWitt was the 2005 Pacific Northwest yo-yo champion and placed eighth in the 2008 competition and 18th last year.

Someone saw his out state plate,no doubt--robbers..
Tanya Harding lives in Wash. and is a mom now--
Hmmm .. was he shot before or after the crash?? Road rage??
The outcome: The young man is dead. He was murdered. He wouldn't have had the accident if he hasn't been shot.
Do we know where Tonya Harding was at the time? Maybe the competitive sport of Yo Yo has rivalry like figure skating.
"Mystery surrounds death of former Wash. state yo-yo champ." Dog gone it KATU, don't make me call Steve Dunn and have him fire your arse. It is not a mystery. He was shot and was in a roll over crash. It is either A or B. You make it sould like the young man was just walking down the street and then all of a sudden, plop and he is dead.
RIP young man, sorry KATU had to suck in writing your last story.

Hi. Welcome to the world of "news."
 @dkgiovenco I must have missed the part where they solved the mystery of who shot him and why..
I don't think they're saying that the cause of death is a mystery, only that it's unclear which events actually caused his death. The mystery they're referring to is the actual circumstances of his injuries. What led him to be shot, and then involved in a rollover crash.
 @dkgiovenco Normally I would agree, but at least this time, you'll have to blame the Associated Press.
 @Gozirra Izroose  @dkgiovenco That's why it's usually abbreviated as "AP" (Ape) or "AssPress" which is self-explanatory.
He's had his ups and downs in the past but sorry to hear about his untimely demise.
 @Pointblank G-R-O-A-N-!-!-!
(That was such a bad pun it was actually funny!)
@Mikey @Pointblank Why is someone else getting shot to death (or at least shot enough to loose control of the vehicle and die from the crash) funny?
 @Pointblank Hardy har har.
Why would someone want to kill the yo-yo champ? Unless he's been around the world with a fellow competitor??
too soon, bro. tooooo soooooon.
 @pdxcakes Yeah man, don't rock the cradle.
 @mikeyb123  @pdxcakes He was out walkin the dog?
