TURNER, Ore. – Neighbors in Turner are banding together to clean up their town after the worst flooding in more than a decade.

Last week, the Willamette River flood forced city officials to call for a town-wide evacuation. The flooding damaged more than 100 homes.

Sunday, around 120 volunteers went door-to-door to help those who needed it most. They asked neighbors what kinds of donations they needed – from cleaning supplies and dehumidifiers to dry wall and furniture. The Turner Christian Church organized the effort.

“It does take a village,” said one volunteer named Ginny. “I think that when we set aside our own personal concerns and we pull together as a community, I think that’s when things happen and when you know you’re not alone.”

Neighbors said it could take months to clean up what the flooding left behind.
