PORTLAND, Ore. – Neighbors in Southeast Portland tried to prevent a home from being demolished by blocking it with their cars.

The developer, Renaissance Homes, put fliers on neighborhood doors Wednesday to let people know about plans to tear down the home on Southeast Rural Street early Thursday morning.

Neighbors told KATU they don’t want the home in the Eastmoreland neighborhood torn down without more discussion first.

KATU's Valerie Hurst said she spoke with Randy Sebastian with Renaissance Homes, who said the crews will eventually proceed with the demolition, after speaking with neighbors he agreed to delay it for at least one day.

Sebastian said he has all the necessary permits for the demolition. Renaissance will build two homes on the property, he said.

Crews will check the home for asbestos and other environmental concerns before demolition, Sebastian said.
