PORTLAND, Ore. – And they weren’t even Dalmatians.

Nine puppies were rescued when firefighters responded to a house fire on Tuesday morning in Southeast Portland.

A crew from Portland Fire and Rescue happened to be responding to another report when they got a call to 2539 S.E. 34th Ave. at 7:36 a.m. When they arrived, they found the house’s only resident outside although there were puppies trapped inside.

A crew with a hose line went in within minutes of the report and rescued the puppies.

The house was in the middle of being remodeled, which increased the danger of the fire spreading, firefighters said.

Nobody was hurt, and crews were still working to figure out how much damage there was to the house later Tuesday morning.
