BEAVERTON, Ore. – Firefighters put out a fire at a Beaverton duplex Tuesday afternoon.

Everyone inside the duplex escaped safely after the fire started.

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Karen Eubanks said the fire started just after 1 p.m. at the duplex on Southwest Hillcrest Court.

Firefighters found a fully engulfed garage when they arrived. They said the fire also spread up the wall of the duplex to the attic.

Eubanks said a family in one of the units heard a noise and looked in the garage, where they saw a fire. They warned the occupants in the other unit as they escaped.

Crews had the fire under control within 30 minutes. No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Both units in the duplex were heavily damaged by heat, smoke and water, Eubanks said.
