No strike yet for PPS teachers, contract negotiations continue

Portland Public Schools teachers could decide to strike any day now.

A 30-day cooling off period from contract talks ended Friday, opening the door for the district to impose a contract or the teachers to go on strike.

Contract talks have been going on since the spring, but the school board declared an impasse on Nov. 20.

Both sides are trying to agree on such things as pay, benefits, workload and job protections.

Mediation sessions are planned for next week.
