PORTLAND, Ore. – Homicide detectives are trying to figure out who killed a person found slumped over in a car in a Northeast Portland neighborhood on Thursday morning.
Officers found 32-year-old Jose Manuel Alvarez-Madrigal dead with a gunshot wound in a vehicle around 10 a.m. near NE 38th Avenue and Shaver Street after a neighbor called them. The area is a residential neighborhood.
A medical examiner will determine exactly how he died Friday, police said.
Investigators spoke with neighbors who said they thought there were gunshots fired around 11 p.m. the previous night.
Investigators aren't sure yet if anyone reported the gunshots when they happened.
“Detectives are in the early stages of a homicide investigation,” Sgt. Pete Simpson said in a brief news release about the incident.
Police are seeking tips from the public about this case. They are asking that anyone who saw Alvarez-Madrigal in the area or have information about the vehicle, a blue 2002 Hyundai Elantra four-door, should contact Detective Molly Daul at (503) 823-0991, firstname.lastname@example.org; or, Detective Rico Beniga at (503) 823-0457, email@example.com.
Police say at this point they have no information to indicate that anyone in the neighborhood is at risk.
