BEAVERTON, Ore. – Police arrested a 33-year-old man Wednesday who they said sexually assaulted a woman in her apartment earlier in the month.
Beaverton Detective Sgt. Jim Shumway said police found Cruz Bonilla of Hillsboro after he left a note on the 39-year-old woman’s apartment door a little over a week after the alleged attack. Police said there was enough information on it to lead them to Bonilla.
According to a probable cause affidavit, that information was Bonilla's phone number.
"I hope you don't hate me (phone number) if you wants and send me to jail please," the handwritten note said, according to the court document.
Bonilla told police that he left the note on the victim's apartment door because he felt guilty of taking advantage of the woman.
Shumway said the woman’s attacker entered her apartment at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 through an unlocked door and then sexually assaulted her. They said the woman struggled with her attacker and he fled.
The woman did not know her attacker, Shumway said.
Bonilla was taken to the Washington County Jail where he faces charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree sex abuse and first-degree sodomy.
