I-84 reopens at The Dalles after multiple crashes

THE DALLES, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Transportation reopened eastbound Interstate 84 between The Dalles and Pendleton after icy conditions caused multiple crashes early Monday.

ODOT closed eastbound lanes east of The Dalles just after 6 a.m. The department later announced that both lanes of eastbound I-84 were open. Westbound traffic, however, was down to one lane at The Dalles.

Forecasters said the weekend ice in the Columbia River Gorge was being replaced by freezing rain Monday morning as the temperature warms.

The National Weather Service says a series of Pacific storms will hit the Northwest this week with a total of 2-to-4 inches of rain by Thursday in the lowlands of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington.
