One arrested in Christmas tree stunt at the governor's mansion
SALEM, Ore. - A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday after a group of people piled out of a van and unloaded a bunch of dry Christmas trees outside the governor's mansion.
The incident happened around 6:45 a.m.
According to police, a van pulled up in front of Mahonia Hall at the mansion and the trees were dumped near the front security gate.
An Oregon State Police trooper who provides security at the mansion caught them in the act and was able to detain one of them. The rest took off in the van.
John Winston Zatkowsky was arrested on charges of third-degree criminal mischief and offensive littering. He was booked and released from the Marion County Jail.
