One man dead after shooting in Hazel Dell
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Hazel Dell.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman said 43-year-old Matthew Clark of Vancouver was shot at his home at 9610 NE 25th Avenue.
Neighbors called 9-1-1 when they heard shots in the home just before 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, Neiman said.
Deputies have questioned several neighbors. They do not have anyone in custody at this time.
Police believe Clark knew the shooter.
Neiman said there is no reason to believe there is any danger to the public.
I was close friends with Matt in Middle School. He was a troubled person, but at his core he was a good person from a family filled with love. Rest in peace, Matt. You surely didn't deserve this.Â
And now the plot thickens...Â
This evening, CSI began digging up both the front and backyards of this location. Rumors are abound in the neighborhood.
I have always driven by this house and seen weird things going on. Just the other day I drove by that house and saw what appeared to be a drug exchange going on through their front window. I saw someone in the house taking money from someone and then handing a big bag full of white powder to someone out their window.... This happened right out in the front yard! I pretended like i didn't see it of course because i was scared out of my mind what they would do if they saw me looking at them. I knew it was only a matter of time before they had someone break into their house..... This place is bad news. And when you live like 3 blocks away its really scary to hear something like this is happening....
I live in the newer development around the corner from this location. These two homes have been an issue in the neighborhood for years. My neighbor, who is in law enforcement, heard 5 or 6 gunshots this morning followed by emergency vehicles. I awoke to the gunshots, as well. Drugs were being sold out of this home and it sounds like this was a drug deal gone bad. At least we won't have a drug dealer in the neighborhood any longer!!!
@Sunshine True but now we need to get the killer off the streets.
This house and next door one have been trouble for years. Previous tenants were hoader / shady slobs. Both properties became vacant either by foreclosure or getting evicted. Since then its turned into a flop house that shady people break into, vandalize, hang out and do god knows what there. Steal whatever left is there. Both houses need to be condenmed. I drive by it daily. Always someone there on property not suppose to be up to no good. With no Tresspassing signs, etc. Cops have been there before many times. Just last week ago I called cops on some people what appeared to be druggies burning a campfire in the front yard by the road and rummaging through the place in middle of the day. Was only a matter of time before something bad happened there. It's on a main road and it amazes me how flagrant people are to just do whatever to private property as if nobody is going to see what going on. Night time is different story but the amount of issues there I'd hope the Sheriff's office did regular checkup's and drive by's.
i am a grandma concerned about the safety of the kids in the neighborhood school.... they are not ..nor have they been on lockdown today.... who is looking out for their safety
@Linda Whipple Good point. It's literally like 3 blocks from Gaiser Middle School with many kids walking to school daily. Hell I drove to work at 4:10 am. To think this happened shortly after that sometime makes one think....
I hope law enforcement can sort this out and find the person or persons responsible. My heart goes out to the family of the victim.
Someone was murdered, the suspect is on the loose, nobody knows what he/she looks like, but uhhhh, no danger to the public...keep calm and carry on.
I know right?
The area in question has had a long series of visits from both police and the fire department. There are a couple of these older, poorly maintained houses in a clump that really stick out from all the new tract housing all around them.Â
 @Keith F. Yup.
oh my, i wonder if it was an early morning burglary. maybe the person of interest was the home owner
@Phuzz ~  My gosh, could be about anything... domestic-type/family dispute, drug deal gone bad, and so on...  in any case, sure seems to be a lot of that happening lately... :-(
@margay1  @Phuzz No they are two dumpy homes that need to be condemed that nobody lives in anymore. It's a hangout for the seedy element around the area. AKA flop house.
Vantucky, cue the banjos
Vantucky still lot safer and civil then Portland. We don't have drive by shootings every other night like in North / SE Portland.
People are SNAPPING all over the nation......
