VANCOUVER, Wash. - One person was killed early Thursday morning in Vancouver when their car rolled over on Highway 14.
The crash took place at about 5:30 a.m. on Highway 14 near Lieser Road. The car went down an embankment.
The right lane was closed while police worked at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police have not yet released the name of the person who died in the crash.
A man died after a rollover crash along State Route 14 early Thursday, despite a stranger's efforts to save him.
Â
A pickup truck headed eastbound at about 5 AM crashed through a guardrail just east of Lieser Road and rolled down an embankment, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn.
Â
A Good Samaritan who saw the wreck stopped, tried to help and then sat with the victim before he passed away.
Â
"He was breathing but unconscious. I tried to comfort him. I don't know if he heard me or not, but I just wanted him to know that somebody was there to try to help out," Mark Hutton said.
Â
The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Darin Thorp, 42, of Vancouver.
Â
"After speaking with troopers investigating the collision, alcohol is a possible contributor and the driver is was not wearing a seat belt," Finn said. "Witnesses to the collision stated the vehicle drifted off the road. So fatigue may also be a factor."
Â
During the rollover, a wheel flew off of the pickup and another vehicle struck it, Finn said. There were no reports of injuries to the occupants of that vehicle.
Â
The roadway was blocked for more than three hours while police investigated.
My heart goes out to the friends and family of the person who died. Tragic loss. I hope law enforcement can make sense of what occurred and why.
Another sad storyÂ
Â
RIP...
This road seems to attract more than its fair share of rollovers. I travel up and down SR14 every day, and I have seen probably 4 rollovers over the last eight years or so regardless of the weather conditions.
Seatbelt use? Rollovers are highly survivable if seatbelts are used. Was this person ejected which would mean almost certain death or serious injury?
@RalphCramden Do you post on every story?
 @Oregon7812 Â
Nope. But I do post a lot. Is there a limit on the number of posts I can make? Maybe I don't know all the rules. Let me know if there is a limit cause I don't want to violate the rules.

Now now, I can slide off topic ever now and then....8-} But I do thank you for your kind comments.
Â
Much of what I see is from a much different perspective that what others see. It makes me different which I have been told many times. My biggest issue is that some don't understand me and of course I take some heat for that.
Â
One of my students told me the other day that I have an "interesting way of teaching" but it is very effective (he has a PhD in chemistry).
@RalphCramden  @Oregon7812 Not only does he comment often, but he is one of the only regulars here who is consistently sane and appropriate. And he stays on-topic. Thanks Ralph!!
 @Oregon7812 Â
That's good to know cause I don't want to violate the policies.
@Oregon7812  @RalphCramden Well this was all useful. Didn't someone lose their life?Â
@RalphCramden No, I don't believe there is a limit on the number of posts you can make.
Oregon7812 you have 7 posting points and Ralph has 10559 welcome to the club my friend.
He's only been here a few more months than I have and already he has over 10k...the game's rigged!...;-)
@Oregon7812  @RalphCramden Yup, he does, lol.
