Outpouring of love from community still flowing for Heichel

GRESHAM, Ore. – The outpouring of support and love from the community toward the 21-year-old woman found murdered late last week hasn't slowed.
Over the weekend, a couple hundred people came to the Starbucks where Whitney Heichel worked for a candlelight vigil, and late Monday a couple dozen people were there again with candles.
Heichel left for work the morning of Oct. 16 but never made it. Police say 24-year-old Jonathan D. Holt, an acquaintance, forced Heichel at gunpoint to drive to Roslyn Lake in Clackamas County after asking her for a ride. Police say he then sexually assaulted Heichel and then shot her four times, killing her. Heichel’s body was found on Larch Mountain Friday night.
The support for Heichel has come from friends and strangers. The tragedy has touched many, which was evident from the long lines at Dutch Bros. Coffee Monday. The coffee shop will give half of Monday’s proceeds to help Heichel’s family. Over the weekend, people also lined up at RealTime Roasters to also help the family financially.
It's what the community wants – to give to the people who had so much taken from them.
Members of the community also left a memorial outside Whitney’s apartment, and Whitney's husband, Clint, received flowers, cards and money from residents at his workplace, a Gresham apartment complex.
The community has opened their wallets and their hearts for a family in need to "let them know that there are people out there who care, everybody cares, everybody remembers, everybody – even people who don't know her, this story has touched everybody's lives," said Kari McVay.
Whitney's co-workers at Starbucks also donated many of their tips to her family. Her family has told KATU News how grateful they are for the kindness and generosity of the community.
Holt appeared in court Monday afternoon and was charged with kidnapping, robbery, sodomy and murder.

Beautiful article. It is good to see something positive come out of this otherwise very sad story.
What a great site to see so many people that care no matter what race or religion! It proves we have an awesome community that cares deeply for all. And to all the families that still have loved one missing our hearts and prayers go to you as well.
I have direct information that Jonathan Holt was not reproved. Â He stepped down from being an MS after his "episode" last year. Â He had not attended meetings the past few months and his wife was getting ready to seperate from him. Â This info comes from someone in the same cong. who will not be identified. Â They read letters in all the congs telling ones to not be interviewed by media and refer all questions to the family spokesman. Â The branch sent out 2 brothers to do comfort the cong (do damage control) and the District Overseer conducted the Memorial Service on Saturday. Â All this is from reliable source.
@INFORMant Do you have anything to say regarding the topic of this article? i.e. the love shown by the community? If not, why post at all? Very negative talk compared to how others viewed this.
What does pc mean after her name on her real estate site? PRIVATE CLIENT? Wow. Real estate. That is what WATCHTOWER IN NEW YORK IS ALL ABOUT.
Â
Very interesting indeed. As I said, make sure you know where your donation will end up; or most of it.Â
Â
See, the more you google, the better educated you will become. Of course, always sift through your searches carefully. The net can be an evil place.
Just make sure your donated money isn't actually going to be sent to the WATCHTOWER BIBLE TRACT SOCIETY, as a "charitable donation".Â

Payment of sales tax on literature
On 17 January1990 the U.S. Supreme Court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature. The following month, a letter from the Watchtower Society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis. By way of reason the letter stated that "by adopting a method of literature distribution based completely on donation, Jehovah's people are able to greatly simplify our Bible education work and separate ourselves from those who commercialize religion." They also stated in one of their publications that "there are growing pressures against all religious elements" and that their main concern was to move ahead in the worldwide Kingdom preaching work, "without hindrance".[102] The Supreme Court ruling was not mentioned.

Imagine how much a small contribution from a lot of people will help.
I wonder if these businesses actually might be getting increased profits off of this if there's enough of an increase in costumers compared to usual?
I see Starbucks Corporate is doing so much to help, too.
What's that?
NOTHING?
Oh.
Never mind.

I find it very touching and impressive the way the community has shown their kindness and support. It's good to know that there are so many good people out there who come together during such times. This sad event really brought out the best in these people, and they should be proud.  Very sweet.
I'm really happy to see this. I can't imagine the pain that her family is going through as reality sets in one week from that life changing day. I hope her memory will continue and not fade away. This family is going to need love and support for a long time to come.
Â
That being said, I also hope that the community is able to reach out to the other families in the news suffering right now with unanswered questions about a missing loved one or a missing loved one that has been found deceased. A lot of stories have popped up in the news after Whitney's story and there are other families just as devistated out there. I hope we can reach out to love and support ALL of our neighbors in the Portland area.
RIP Whitney. We will see you again very soon in Paradise.
Dutch Bros is a class act. As is RealTime Roasters. As for Starbucks......."Whitney's co-workers at Starbucks also donated many of their tips to her family." - Co-workers are great - Starbucks, not so much.
RIP Whitney - and wishes for healing for the family. So sad - and shocking.Â
Way to start something Dutch Bros! The outpouring of love and compassion is an amazing example of bringing communities (yes, coffee communities) together.
Happy to see this.
This is showing an "Onslaught" of compassion for one awesome young lady... W H I T N E Y... Hope you're looking down from above.... You're forever etched in our hearts & lives, w/in the community of Gresham / Troutdale.....
