PORTLAND, Ore. – A woman is searching for one of her two Great Danes that escaped after an SUV crashed into the truck where they were sleeping early Monday morning.

Nicole Root said her boyfriend was in the back of the truck with the dogs. Root said he was not seriously hurt.

It’s unclear if the driver of the SUV was seriously hurt.

The crash happened near Northeast Glisan and 136th Avenue just before 4 a.m. Root was inside a friend’s house watching TV when she heard the crash.

“It sounded like gunshots to me,” said Root. “My boyfriend was in the back trying to get (the dogs) to sleep. They ran out of the car.”

Root’s two Great Danes, Rosco and Mona, ran westbound on Glisan after the crash. Mona returned to the area around 10:30 a.m., Root said.

“They’re big dogs. They’re massive Great Danes,” she said. “They’re probably really scared right now. They’ve never bit anybody. I don’t know how they would react right now.”
