PGE considers solar generating site near Salem

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Portland General Electric has requested a zoning change for a property near Salem where it's thinking about building a solar power generating plant.

The application submitted to Marion County says solar cells would cover about half of the 52 acres.

Spokesman Steve Corson told the Statesman Journal the utility hasn't decided yet if it will go ahead and build the facility.

PGE has owned the vacant property since the 1970s when it served as a buffer for the Bethel Power Plant, which was decommissioned in the1990s.
