PPS teachers begin voting to avoid a strike

PORTLAND, Ore. – Teachers within Portland Public Schools will begin voting to avoid a strike.

The Portland Association of Teachers said union representatives picked up ballots on Monday. Union members will be able to cast their ballots starting Tuesday. They have until Thursday to cast their vote.  The school board will vote after that.

Last week, Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers came up with a deal in order to avoid a strike. It came after a 23-hour bargaining session that lasted until early in the morning.

Each side signed a tentative agreement, but details of the agreement were not released. But both sides have stated they’re happy to reach the end of a 10-month long contract dispute.
